Rock hyrax

The rock hyrax (Procavia capensis), also called rock badger and Cape hyrax, is commonly referred to in South African English as the dassie. Like all hyraxes, it is a medium-sized (~4 kg) terrestrial mammal, superficially resembling a guinea pig with short ears and tail. The closest living relatives to hyraxes are the modern-day elephants and sirenians. The rock hyrax is found across Africa and the Middle East. Photographed in Bettys Bay, South Africa.

Pildappa Rocks 2016

This was a Large Rock feature which fascinated me 18 km from the main Eyre highway it is worth the journey. The history of the area is a credit to the Aboriginal and early White settlers, who used the base of the rock to channel water to a underground holding tank. Amenities are quite well set out and this area is well worth the visit.

Summertime Western Grebes nesting and caring for their young.

Western Grebes along with other grebe species carry their young on the backs when they go out to look for food I assume it makes life simpler to take their young to the food source then to always swim back to the shoreline it also helps keep track of the young birds and keep them out of a predators grasp the marshes are also home to Coyotes and Foxes who are always looking for an easy meal.

New Zealand is a great travel destination with its mountains, alpine vegetation, lakes, fjords and clear streams cascading down the slopes. Nature is incredibly beautiful; in the park like Zealandia one can admire the native flora and fauna; in Rototua the geysers, hot springs and historic buildings. The cities are easy to visit on foot, people are friendly, and food and coffee are great.
